FORD MOTORS
HMI PROGRAM Design -
explorer (north am.), RAPTOR (CHINA)

THE CHALLENGE:

Design a highly evolved and detailed controller and panoramic digital display program for Fords in-dash digital interface. Each program demands a unique look & feel and the design team must take into account cross-cultural implications (specifically with the Ford Raptor, China program).

THE SOLUTION:

Our team designed a visually dynamic and functional program based around ‘Smart Surface’ visual direction. The Art Direction utilizes a fixed light position to cast a hued shadow across the Panoramic dashboard. Different ‘Drive Modes’ utilize different angularities of shadow and light, resembling the premium interior of the vehicle and providing a cohesive digital experience embedded with textures and tones designed to accentuate the physical interior features of the vehicle.

explorer (North AM.)

Flagship model for release of the Smart Surface. The elongated screen behind the steering-wheel is the Panoramic Dashboard; where all IOD and driving information is displayed, in both a Dark and Light Mode (as seen below). The Controller Screen located in the central dashboard serves as the media, navigation, communication and other application based home, installing all previously rotary functions into a purely digital experience.

Ford Raptor (CHINA)

Designed for the more rugged, all-terrain user. The Raptor is a sharper take on the Smart Surface program. Several minor adjustments across the program components provides a nuanced edge that feels distinct while remaining true to the greater direction.
